Abrigo is an indoor pet house designed for medium size dogs and also cats. The project was developed and thought out to be made using CNCs or laser cutters and to be distributed on open source online based platforms. The word abrigo in Portuguese means shelter, and that is exactly the idea of the product: to bring comfort to the pet. The inspiration for the project came mainly from the Oculus subway station located in New York City and projected by Santiago Salatrava. Such a station has the visual characteristic of repetition of shapes, forming a kind of arkThis station has the repetition of patterns and forms on its construction.
The product has been thought to be produced using a single wood plate by cutting it on a CNC or a laser cutter. The cover is made of fabric, and helps keeping the interior warm. The cutting plan was designed to simplify the assembly of the parts, once the wood is cut, the only thing that is needed to unite the parts is wood glue, and is the same to fabric.
